Joseph Flynn

Joseph Flynn Joseph Flynn was born, raised, and educated in Chicago. He attended: St. Mary of the Lake School; Francis W. Parker School; Loyola University and Northeastern Illinois University, from which he received a B.A. in English. It was while he was on his way to his first day of classes at Loyola, with the intention of becoming a lawyer, that Mr. Flynn's muse first visited him, presenting him with the idea for his short story, Lester's Curse.

After graduating from college, and seeking to make a living from his writing, Mr. Flynn went to work for the Foote, Cone & Belding advertising agency, writing print, TV, and radio copy. Over the years, he also worked, on staff and freelance, for other major ad agencies, including, J. Walter Thompson, Doyle Dane Bernbach, W.B. Doner, Ogilvy & Mather, McCann Erickson, and Marsteller.

Mr. Flynn's muse led him to live in Honolulu (once) and Los Angeles (twice). He loved the warm weather, the blue ocean, and the palm trees. But he didn't like the isolation of living in the remote reaches of the Hawaiian Pacific. Nor did he like the congestion, smog, and cost of living in L.A. When his daughter was born, he and his wife thought they could do worse than to raise their child in the Midwest—despite the weather—and that's what they did.

Writers who influenced Mr. Flynn, and helped him while away many an hour, include: Allen Drury, Alistair McLean, John D. MacDonald, Ross Thomas, Frank McAuliffe, Ian Fleming, and Donald Hamilton.

Mr. Flynn is the author of The Concrete Inquisition (Signet Books), Digger (Bantam Books), The Next President (Bantam Books), reprint of The Concrete Inquisition (Stray Dog Press, Inc.*), Hot Type (Stray Dog Press, Inc.*), Farewell Performance (Stray Dog Press, Inc.*), Gasoline, Texas (Stray Dog Press, Inc.*), and The President's Henchman (Variance Publishing).
